Grab is a travel booking service to a popular destination not only in Malaysia, but in some countries around Southeast Asia. For now, Grab uses mapping services from Google, but it is expected to change soon.
Most recently, Grab has announced partnership with HERE, where they will use HERE mapping support to offer more accurate fares to a destination, as well as accurately calculating time to destination. HERE mapping data will be used in several countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
HERE was previously initiated by Nokia, but subsequently it has changed hands several times. Now, it is owned by a consortium owned by Mercedes Benz, BMW and also Audi.
HERE itself has recently been focused on the swap guide, and perhaps they can collect travel data and so on by working with Grab in the Southeast Asian region.
Currently, the Grab app still uses mapping data from Google, and we may see it change soon.
