ThinkPad25 Years - ThinkPad Development Lab at Lenovo Yamato Lab

Yokohama Lab is a responsible laboratory in Lenovo ThinkPad development. In making the ThinkPad computer more durable and of quality, this lab carries over 200 physical tests up to the audio portion of this computer.
The lab was originally located in Yamato City in Kanagawa, but its facility was transferred to Minatomirai in Yokohama from 2011 during the acquisition of IBM. In the Yamato lab this was the first ThinkPad model to be produced, through the ThinkPad 700C in 1992 where its development was led by Arimasa Naitoh or known as ThinkPad's father.
This laboratory is divided into 4 main parts, which comprise laboratories- Wireless and Acoustic Design Lab- EMC and Reliability Design Lab- Robustness and Durability Design Lab- Durability Design Lab
This first lab is seen to be more focused on the testing of wireless devices in the ThinkPad, which includes tests on the design and effectiveness of the antenna. It also has Hemi-Anechoic Room room to test sound rate especially when running VoIP through this ThinkPad device.

The second laboratory is seen testing the electromagnetic wave rate generated from this ThinkPad to ensure that the produced ThinkPad product is able to pass through the temperature of the past. In this test it offers EMC Testing which tests the wave level so that it does not interfere with other electronic equipment within the ThinkPad. In this test also puts Realibility Testing, which tests the ThinkPad's resistance level by putting it at room temperature at 0 degrees centigrade.

To enable ThinkPad to be durable, Robustness and Durability Design Lab is responsible for testing the physical build elements on this device. The device to test will be through Impact & Vibration Testing which tests the build quality level with vibration tests. It also goes through a Durability Test which tests the physical quality by dropping the ThinkPad at an altitude plus through the LCD stress testing for testing on the screen.

The final part of this lab is Durability Design Lab which also tests ThinkPad's physical level by focusing on building practicality. The ThinkPad will be tested through openings and lid covers in a high enough rate as well as testing in terms of static electricity levels that can make the device have a problem suddenly.

This lab has been the main laboratories of the ThinkPad development so far and we can see roughly how it is being tested intensively. ThinkPad is renowned for its long-standing device design, so it has to go through extreme testing before it is marketed to consumers.
