OnePlus 5 And 5T Does Not Support the Project Treble Update System

Project Treble is Google's quest to simplify the process of updating Android software in the future. Through Project Treble, Google will offer the latest version of Android and additional components such as manufacturer interface can be added later. Previously, the latest version of Android should be modified first with the manufacturer's interface. This is the main reason why many devices are late to receive updates.

Project Treble will speed up the update process, OnePlus has confirmed it will not be supported by OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T through their official forums. They also have no plans to support it for now. OnePlus 5T has been confirmed to receive Oreo early next year as it still uses Nougat anyway launched in November.
