Xiaomi Introduces Siri Redmi Y With Two New Phone Models

Xiaomi today introduced a new series of devices under the Redmi Y brand. The first smartphone below was Redmi Y1, and was announced for the Indian market only at this time. Xiaomi says the letter "Y" carries the meaning of "You", and "Youth".

Under the Redmi Y series, two smartphones were introduced, namely Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 features a slightly curved side design to provide comfort when holding it. This device comes with a fingerprint scanner on the back, and focuses on selfie features. For that purpose, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 includes a 16-megapixel selfie front camera with lighting illumination, and uses the 13-megapixel PDAF rear camera.

In terms of specifications, it comes with a 5.5-inch screen with HD display, generated with a Snapdragon 435 chip, 3GB RAM memory and 32GB of storage space. Redmi Y1 also supports dual SIM, as well as infra-red support for controlling your home electronics.

In India, Redmi Y1 with a 3GB RAM option is offered at Rs8999, while a 4GB RAM option is offered at Rs10999.

Together with Redmi Y1 announcement, Xiaomi also announced Redmi Y1 Lite which included a 5.5-inch screen as its main model. Xiaomi said they chose this screen size as it was the highest demand for size compared to other screen sizes.

Redmi Y1 Lite offers much the same design, dual-SIM support, but comes with a Snapdragon 425 chip, and a 3080mAh battery. It also includes IR Blaster support, and includes a 13-megapixel rear camera for image recording.

The 2GB RAM model with 16GB of storage is offered in India at a price of Rs6999 of up to RM458. Currently, it is only announced for the Indian market only, and is no longer known when Xiaomi will offer it for another country.
